DEPRESSION SELF HELP

First of all: take a piece of paper, write down these steps and try to follow them every day. Put it on your nightstand, bathroom mirror or on the fridge. It is depression self help, or better consider it a depression help line.

1. Waking up: do you feel hopeless and tired when you wake up?You probably need some sleep help...

If you are hopeless, do not try to solve all your problems in your head right away. Just take it easy, one hour at the time...Take a look outside... Regardless of the weather, you are lucky to have a shelter and see the light of yet another day... Breathe and don't think about what awaits you today... It doesn't matter, really!

2. Cannot do much other than sit on the sofa watching TV or in your bed tossing and turning? Get a good book and try to concentrate on what you are reading - one sentence at a time. Read it more than once if you need to; just make it activity #1 in your brain. You can do it if you try.

3. Speaking about self help depression... try listening to your favorite music, or to relaxing sounds of nature...

4. Don't force yourself to eat too much, just enough to keep you going... Unless you discover you are hungry... which is wonderful! I remember I was never hungry during the dark times of my depression days... Listen to your body! Eat your favorite food.

5. You are allowed to be happy! Pleasure is not forbidden! Listen to your favorite music, watch your favorite movies, TV shows, play your favorite games... Do what you love! Try not to spend too much time hooked on your computer though... Play with your pet instead! If you don't have one, adopt one from your local shelter... Pets are a natural help for depression. Go outside! Spend as much time as you can outside... 6. Try not to think about anything else when you are doing something!

REMEMBER: ONE ACTIVITY AT A TIME!!!

7. Something made you become worried, anxious? It is normal! You are going through a rough time... You are allowed to be anxious, yes... You are even allowed to have medication if you know it helps. Don't feel guilty about it... It's temporary. Take the minimum dose that you know it will work.

There are many ways to help depression...

8. Need to talk to someone? Pick up the phone and call. Don't be shy, ask your friends to meet them... If you feel too tired, let them come to your place.

9. Stop making rules in your head... Stop punishing yourself... Don't judge yourself, be kind and forgiving to yourself.

10. Members of the family are making you feel uncomfortable, uneasy? Do you feel you are a burden for them? Are you feeling guilty?

You are doing your best and you are going through a very difficult time... You would help them if they would go through rough times and you wouldn't judge them... So stop feeling guilty, YOU ARE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN!

11. Too much noise around you? Can't find peace in your corner of the universe/house? Try to talk to your family / the people around you. They should understand... Try to go away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while if you can...

12. If you feel you need clinical depression help, don’t hesitate to see a professional.
